Nonfiction: Reading and Following Directions (R3D)

Think about when you get ready for school...
Does someone have to tell you each step in getting ready?  Do you listen?

How do you log on to our Book Blog?

How do you make a lunch choice?
How do you tie your shoes?

Today we are going to read about a family of Pueblo potters.  The title of the text is Children of the Clay.

What do you think this selection might be about???   How does reading and following directions fit into this text?  I want you to think about directions and steps in a process while you are reading the text today.

You have a choice of reading by yourself, with a friend, or in a small group with me.  If you finish early, use your sticky notes to leave "tracks" in your reading while the rest of the class finishes.  What voice level should be used in our class during this time?  Would there be exceptions?

We will come back together and share our thinking and questions.
